Monrovia, Liberia - A ten man delegation from the Communist Party of China, the CPC, headed by Mr. Huang Xianyao and Wang Heming, Deputy Director-General, International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Monday paid a courtesy call on the Vice Standard Bearer of the Ruling Unity Party, Vice President Joseph N. Boakai on Capitol Hill.
Unity Party Chairman, Cllr Varney Sherman and the National Chairperson of the Women Congress of the UP, Sheba Brown along with a number of Unity Party Executives attended the meeting.
China’s Ambassador to Liberia, Mr. Zhao Jinahua and His Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. Yang Jun accompanied the delegation to the Office of the Vice President.
Welcoming the delegation to Liberia, Vice President Boakai said, Liberia remains committed to the” One China Policy.”
Vice President Boakai praised the level of commitment China has and continue to make in Liberia’s post war reconstruction programmes, saying the ties between Liberia and China continue to grow from strength to strength and thank the Chinese Government for the number of Liberian students studying in various disciplines in that Country.
Vice President Boakai said that though Liberia is moving gradually in its development drive, there remain a number of challenges.
“We need to learn from you on how the ruling party can work together with the Government in the interest of the people, Vice President Boakai pointed out.”
Speaking earlier, the head of the delegation, Huang Xianyao who is also Member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China, said they were in the Country for three reasons. He said they are here to learn about Liberia and to get an insight into China-Liberia relations among others. Mr. Huang said since the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Liberia both countries have enjoyed cordial relations and witnessed exchange of high level visits and that the support that Liberia and China give each other at the international level is a further manifestation of the strong ties between the two nations.
He said they look forward to more state to state cooperation between Liberia and China in the future, a release from the Office of the Vice President said.
