Monrovia, Liberia:His Excellency President George Manneh Weah has instructed the National Transit Authority to offer ordinary commuters of Liberia three weeks of free ride of the 45 Internet-studded buses donated by the government and people of India.

Beaming with joy, the President hailed the chief facilitator of the donation, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Government for their growing generous contribution towards Liberia’s recovery and development over the years.

President Weah also acknowledged the critical intervention India has made in harnessing its bilateral relations with Liberia.

The President, who spoke Monday, December 23, 2019, when he officially received and dedicated 45 new TATA buses donated by the Indian government, paid special tribute to India Consul General to Liberia, Upjit Singh Sachdeya.

He described Mr. Sachdeya, or Jeety as he is widely known to Liberians, as a man of his word whom the President said he has known since he was ten years old.

“My fellow Liberians, Let’s give special thanks to Jeety,” the President said. “When you know someone, who is credible in his deeds, and he tells you something, you have to have patience and hope.”

President Weah noted that Jeety is such an impeccable character whose love for Liberia is exceptional and practical, adding that it is just a matter of time before the Bali Island Project, which the Indian businessman and diplomat committed to seeing off the ground to start soon.

Meanwhile, the Liberian Leader has admonished the management of the National Transit Authority (NTA) to manage the buses as prudently as possible for the good of the ordinary people for whom they are principally intended.

President Weah strongly spoke against overcrowding the buses beyond their capacity. He also mandated the management to use the buses, which have free wireless internet, for three weeks free of charge on a trial basis.

The President also instructed the NTA to turn over three of the buses to the University of Liberia for use by students to ease their transportation challenges.
