Monrovia, Liberia - I am deeply saddened by the death of the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Royal Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, whose passing was announced by the Government of the UAE on Friday, 13, 2022.

I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the government and people of the UAE, while praying that they take solace in the benevolence of Allah during this difficult period.

Sheikh Khalifa has been credited with helping to modernize the UAE since taking over the country's presidency in 2004. While he will be greatly missed, it is evident that his vision will continue to abide in all leaders around the world.

His brother, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, HRH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, with whom I developed much closer relationship during my stay in Abu Dhabi and over the years, has been acting in Sheikh Khalifa's stead. It is my hope that my dear friend and his entire family can find comfort amid this misfortune.

Liberia stands in solidarity with the Government and People of UAE during this period of grief.

May his soul rest in perpetual peace.
