Monrovia, Liberia - More than 100 female recruits of the Liberian National Police have been awarded diplomas following an accelerated educational program at the Police Academy in Paynesville.  The program, the first female police recruitment exercise, was held jointly under the auspices of the Liberian National Police, and the Ministries of Education and Gender.  It attracted high school female students from grades 9th to 12th. The three-month intensive training program was conducted by the Catholic Vocational Training Center in Monrovia, Stella Marie, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the United Nations Military Police.

Speaking Saturday at the occasion, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf congratulated the graduates for their achievement and urged them to serve as true representatives of Liberian women by exhibiting honesty, dedication and commitment in the discharge of their duties. An Executive Mansion release says the President reminded the young female police graduates of the challenges ahead, and urged them to remain resolute and professional at all times, thereby bringing credit to the country, themselves and the profession.

Under the accelerated educational program, the participants earned certificates from the West African Examinations Council prior to their enrollment in the specialized program.
