Monrovia, Liberia - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has criticized residents of her hometown in Julejuah for the lack of self-initiative. The President said despite her personal efforts to respond to the development needs of Julejuah, inhabitants of the area have remained indifferent. President Johnson Sirleaf observed that a once vibrant river is practically covered with debris, thus affecting its free flow, because of the unwillingness of residents to remove the fallen trees and other debris. The Liberian leader cautioned that unless residents of Julejuah arise from their slumber other towns more interested in development will reap the benefits.
The President, whose father hails from Julejuah, reminded citizens of the opportunity her leadership provides for them. “If you miss this opportunity, you should have yourselves to blame,” she cautioned villagers of the town.
President Johnson Sirleaf visited the area Tuesday to share Christmas gifts with residents, including women and children. During the visit, the President also made stops along the way and visited other towns including Kormah, Tenegal, Fehfeh, Medina, Levekai, De Cee Clark, Traub Town and Suehn Mecca, where she was presented agricultural produce by citizens of the town as a Christmas present.
In a related development, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Wednesday shared toys and other food items with children when she visited the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia. The President wished the children Merry Christmas and a speedy recovery.
