President Boakai Joins West African Leaders at 69th ECOWAS Summit, Signs Three Landmark Regional Agreements

During the Summit, President Boakai signed three landmark instruments on behalf of the Republic of Liberia.

The first was the ECOWAS Gender Parity Agreement, under which Member States committed to achieving 40 percent gender parity by 2028 and 50 percent by 2035 across regional institutions and decision-making processes. 

The agreement reflects the region's collective effort to expand opportunities for women and promote more inclusive governance.

President Boakai also signed the Declaration of Commitment to the Compact for the Future of Regional Integration, a strategic framework designed to deepen cooperation among ECOWAS Member States, strengthen regional institutions, promote economic transformation, and advance peace, security, and sustainable development throughout West Africa.

Additionally, the Liberian Leader signed the Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) for the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP) Project, an ambitious regional infrastructure initiative intended to improve energy connectivity, encourage cross-border investment, and support industrial growth and economic development across participating countries.

The three agreements highlight the shared resolve of ECOWAS Member States to strengthen regional cooperation, expand economic integration, and pursue practical solutions to common challenges through collective action.

The 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority brought together Heads of State and Government to deliberate on regional peace and security, economic integration, democratic governance, infrastructure development, and other priority issues affecting the community.
