President Boakai Meets with Members of the Japan-AU Friendship Parliamentary League

Tokyo, Japan — On the sidelines of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., held an engagement with members of the Japan–African Union Friendship Parliamentary League at the National Diet of Japan.

The high-level meeting brought together senior officials of the Liberian Executive and Legislature alongside distinguished members of the Diet, including Mr. Toshitaka Ohoka, Mr. Youichi Fukazawa, Ms. Karen Makishima, Mr. Tomoaki Shimada, and Ms. Toshiko Abe.
Members of the Liberian delegation along with the President were: Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman, Senator Abraham Darius Dillon, National Security and Intelligence Committee Chairman, Senator Momo T. Cyrus, House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Chairman,  Hon. Nehker Gray, Minister of Education, Hon. Jarso Marley Jallah, Minister of Gender Children and Social Protection, Hon. Gbemie Kollie Horace, Minister of Commerce, Hon. Magdalene Dagoseh, Minister of Information, Hon. Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Cooperation,  Hon. Ibrahim Al-Bakri Nyei.

Discussions centered on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, expanding bilateral cooperation, and deepening Japan–Africa relations, with Liberia serving as an important partner in the region. President Boakai underscored Liberia’s commitment to democratic governance, peace, and sustainable development under his ARREST Agenda, while expressing appreciation for Japan’s longstanding partnership and support to Liberia in key sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, health, and human resource development.

The members of the Japan–AU Friendship Parliamentary League expressed their commitment to fostering closer ties with Liberia and the African continent, highlighting the shared values of democracy, stability, and prosperity.

They welcomed President Boakai’s leadership in advancing regional peace and development, and assured him of the League’s readiness to champion deeper cooperation at the legislative level.

President Boakai emphasized that strengthening parliamentary and people-to-people ties is essential to building lasting cooperation between Liberia and Japan, and looked forward to practical outcomes from this engagement.
