Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia, has today commenced active participation in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), being held in Addis Ababa, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

President Boakai is leading a high-level Liberian delegation to the Summit, which officially opened earlier today with a ceremonial opening session, followed by closed-door deliberations among African Heads of State and Government.
Over the course of the two-day Assembly, African leaders are expected to deliberate on a broad range of pressing continental priorities, including peace and security, water and sanitation, public health, energy access, democratic governance, regional and continental integration, food security, and the implementation of the continent’s long-term development framework, Agenda 2063.

On the eve of the Summit’s official opening, President Boakai devoted considerable time to reviewing key policy documents and briefing materials related to the thematic sessions.

The Liberian Leader also held separate bilateral engagements with the President of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), Dr. Abdullah Almusaibeeh, and the Acting Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Mr. Mame Mandiaye Niang. The discussions centered on Liberia’s development priorities, strengthening international partnerships, and deepening cooperation within the multilateral framework.

Also, all day yesterday, other senior delegation members were busy attending separate thematic sessions in the buildup to today’s opening session.

The Summit proceedings are currently taking place behind closed doors, with deliberations covering an array of policy and strategic issues of continental importance. The participation of President Boakai underscores Liberia’s renewed commitment to constructive engagement, regional solidarity, and the promotion of shared continental solutions to common challenges.
