Monrovia, Liberia - Vice President Hon. Jeremiah Kpan Koung on Monday, November 24, convened cabinet ministers, legislators, development partners, and civil society actors for the official launch of the Resource Mobilization Strategy for the Liberia Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Costed Strategic Plan (2024–2028).

The high-level gathering focused on securing sustainable financing, improving coordination, and strengthening data-driven action to combat malnutrition across the country.

The launch, held in partnership with UN Nutrition in Liberia, brought renewed momentum to the government’s national nutrition agenda.

Vice President Koung underscored that nutrition remains central to the ARREST Agenda, noting that Liberia cannot achieve inclusive development without addressing the structural drivers of stunting, food insecurity, and poor health outcomes.

Discussions centered on establishing dedicated nutrition budget lines in the FY2026 national budget, reinforcing school feeding programs, expanding community health services in underserved counties, and aligning national plans with forthcoming food security and nutrition survey findings.

Ministers and partners highlighted the economic value of investing in nutrition, stressing that even small, well-targeted allocations produce high returns for children, families, and the wider economy.

Development partners—including the EU, Chinese Embassy, the German government, Ireland, WFP, UNICEF, and several INGOs—reaffirmed their long-term commitment to supporting the government through technical assistance, capacity building, and financial contributions. 
Stakeholders also emphasized the need to upgrade food safety systems, strengthen the Liberia Standards Authority, and expand community-based agricultural models to ensure stable food supply.

The meeting concluded with five key commitments:

Creation of a national nutrition budget line in FY2026, with clear programmatic allocations.

Institutionalized multisectoral coordination, with biannual ministerial meetings and quarterly technical working sessions chaired by the Vice President.

Use of new survey data to sharpen targeting and refine national plans.
Sustained partner support for school feeding, community health, and food safety improvements.

Enhanced legislative oversight to ensure budget commitments translate into measurable national outcomes.
