Abuja, Nigeria – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, at the head of a high-level Liberian delegation to attend the inaugural edition of the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES), scheduled for June 20–21, 2025.

Upon his arrival at the Abuja Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday, the Liberian Chief Executive was received and accorded appropriate military guard of honor.
The Summit, hosted at the Abuja International Conference Centre, was convened by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chairperson of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

The first of its kind, the WAES brings together West African heads of state, policymakers, business leaders, and youth representatives to strengthen regional economic integration, attract sustainable investment, and foster inclusive growth.

President Boakai’s delegation includes key members of his Administration from relevant sectors, notably Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Agriculture Minister Alexander Nuetah, Commerce and Industry Minister Magdalene Dagoseh, among others.

The Liberian delegation is expected to participate in several high-level forums, bilateral meetings, thematic panels, and investment discussions aimed at deepening cooperation across critical sectors such as trade, infrastructure, energy, and agriculture.

The 2025 Economic Summit marks a significant milestone in West Africa’s quest for shared prosperity. Organized under the theme “Regional Synergy for Sustainable Growth,” WAES serves as a strategic platform for shaping economic policy, facilitating cross-border partnerships, and amplifying youth-led innovation in alignment with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) objectives.

President Boakai is scheduled to deliver a statement highlighting Liberia’s economic reform agenda, regional cooperation priorities, and opportunities for private sector collaboration.

As Liberia seeks to reposition itself as a key economic player in the sub-region, President Boakai’s participation underscores his Administration’s commitment to multilateral engagement and regional transformation.

The outcomes of the summit are expected to lay the groundwork for joint action plans and strategic investment frameworks that will benefit member states and drive long-term development across West Africa.

The Economic Summit will be followed by the Summit of the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government on Sunday, June 22.
